Case study

Émile Paris — the age check becomes a gesture

The house of Émile Paris has been making champagne since 1884. Its old website greeted visitors with a question laid over a grey photo; the new one sets up a house: midnight blue, gold, and the bottle up front.

Where it started

The old website opened on an age check laid over a grey photo, then on a slogan in capitals between two red bands. On mobile, the page took 14.1 seconds to load.

The page had no title, and three links had no name a screen reader could read.

What changed

  • The age check becomes a gesture. To enter, the visitor slides a golden medallion. The legal requirement becomes the first contact with the brand.
  • A page per cuvée. Brut, Blanc de Blancs, Rosé, Grande Réserve: each cuvée has its page, and the signature cuvée has a screen of its own.
  • A door for the trade. Importers, companies, restaurateurs, wine shops: each has its own entrance and its own enquiry.
  • Two languages. The website reads in French as well as in English.
